Jack Johnson Austin Concert reviews
Killer lineup, excellent show.
The bands I caught, Flobots, Jack Johnson, Emphatic, Cage the Elephant, Blue October, and Weezer, were all excellent, putting on engaging and dynamic performances and interacting well with the crowd despite the hot weather. Standouts for me were Weezer and Spose. Weezer, the band I most anticipated, played hits from their career and even did a cool cover of Kids by MGMT/ Pokerface by Lady Gaga. Rivers interacted charmingly with the audience, making the whole presentation great. Spose, new to IA/NE, played unreleased songs off his upcoming album and energized the crowd early on. The show closed with an epic, all-band drum solo.
There were some minor drawbacks, such as the disruptive crowd-surfers and pit lunatics, but these were beyond the control of the venue or bands. The outdoor venue was overall good, with the exception of the restroom running out of supplies halfway through. The strict water policy, prohibiting sealed water bottles and leading to long lines at the water stations, may have caused dehydration issues for some attendees. Allowing sealed water vessels would be a prudent adjustment to prevent such problems.
In conclusion, the show was fantastic. Many thanks to the River, Westfair, and all the bands for a memorable experience!
